The
2008 Awards Banquet
The Massillon Amateur Radio Club's Annual Awards Banquet was held on Saturday,
January 12th at the Otterbein Methodist Church in Navarre with nearly 60 members and guests attending.
Club Historian Perry Ballinger, W8AU opened the evenings
events with a blessing followed by a fine family style dinner served by the
church that included Swiss steak, chicken, mashed potatoes and
green beans. Dessert was various delicious pie. Our special thanks to the
Otterbein Church for hosting us this year and for the great dinner.
Outgoing Club President Ralph Bugg, K8HSQ opened the formal
portion of the dinner with opening remarks and introductions of everyone
present. This was followed by presentation of our Service Awards honoring those
members who deserved special recognition for their efforts during 2007. The
following members were recognized for their service to the club in the following
categories.

Special Recognition Award to Mike Palmer, KD8ENV
A Special Recognition Award was presented to Mike Palmer,
KD8ENV. One of our newer club members, Mike was instrumental in helping upgrade
both the club hamshack as well as our Emergency Communications Trailer with some
badly needed computer equipment. Thanks to Mikes efforts, we now have two newer
laptops and a flat screen monitor to replace our failing existing monitor. One
of the laptops will soon be installed in our club trailer that will be used to
support our Winlink effort and for logging during Field Day.
Mike has also been a very active member, assisting with many
club events and projects. Thanks to Mikes contributions, our club continues to
grow and prosper !

Public Service Award to Wade Huthmacher,
WD8MIU
Congratulations to ARES member Wade Huthmacher -
WD8MIU recipient of this years MARC Public Service Award.
The continued existence of our hobby is due in
part to the volunteer efforts of radio operators across the
country who provide communications support to their communities.
This years Public Service Award recipient is a fine example of
this commitment.
Wades' name routinely shows when volunteers are
needed for the many events we are involved in. A strong and
disciplined communicator, Wade also maintains an impressive
training resume and has taken a lead role in the Pro Football Hall
of Fame Festival Communications Committee and remains a great
asset to the Stark County ARES Program.

Technical Merit Award to Rodger Trompower,
KA8FTS
The recipient of this years Technical Merit Award was presented to
Rodger Trompower, KA8FTS. Since earning his Amateur Radio license,
Rodger has been experimenting with antenna construction, equipment
repair and kit building having recently completed an Elecraft
Transceiver Kit.
Technical achievement is a large part of the
Amateur Radio hobby and Rodger is a fine example of this aspect of
the hobby.

The William J. North Ham of the Year Award Recipient Mike
Sciarini, WA8MKH
The William J. North, W8NP Ham of the Year Award was presented to
Mike Sciarini, WA8MKH.
Since joining the club Mike has been active in
many aspects of club operation. Thanks to his long history in
Amateur Radio, Mike has provided guidance during many club
activities including taking a lead role trouble shooting
interference on the club's repeater and other areas. Mike has
presented several club programs covering a wide range of topics
and is a regular contributor to our club newsletter. Mike and
family also also assist during club Safety Breaks.
Mike is a great asset to both the hobby and our
club and it is with great pride that we bestow this highest of
club recognition and honor to Mike Sciarini, WA8MKH.

Honorary Life Memberships were presented to Robert (Kip) Kiplinger
- K8KIP and Randy Phelps, KD8JN. Life Memberships are
issued for 25 years membership in the club.

The great evening concluded with the installation
of the 2008 Executive Board by outgoing President Ralph Bugg,
K8HSQ.
